Bring Movies and Gaming Outdoors

BRIDGTON, MAINE — June 25, 2020 — Todd Morton has had a diverse working career. He has done construction, finish carpentry and built a couple of log homes. And he worked 22 years as an Internet marketer. Now he hopes to add the Wireless Outdoor Cinema Company to his professional accomplishments.

Todd, who grew up in northern Vermont, has always appreciated the outdoors. His true passions have always been woodworking, designing and creating, and exploring outdoors.

For years, Todd thought about putting up a backyard outdoor movie theater and started testing various residential outdoor movie theater setups found online that turned out to be flimsy or too cumbersome to set up and use.

Todd continued researching outdoor movie theater setups but found most did not hold up due to uneven ground conditions or the quality of the product. “I researched for months how I could set up an outdoor movie theater in my backyard that I wouldn’t have to inflate, deflate, or package up at the end of the night after watching a movie,” he said.

After buying and testing all available residential outdoor movie theater setups found online, Todd decided to build his own. The first step was to design a movie screen frame to hang a 150″ diagonal projector screen from. Todd designed and built a movable screen frame from weather-resistant 4″ x 4″ pressure-treated lumber and used rust-proof hardware to ensure the screen frame would last for years. “This screen frame is built to last with New England’s harsh weather conditions,” he said.

The 150” diagonal polyester projector screen attaches to the screen frame with grommet holes and screw hooks. Todd said hanging the projector screen to the screen frame takes less time than popping a bag of popcorn in the microwave.

One of the biggest challenges Todd said he faced was finding a solution for organizing all of the cinema electronics. Since no solution was available online, Todd returned to his woodshop to work on a design. “My goal was to create a lightweight, portable projector stand where all the electronics would stay permanently on the stand without ever having to be unplugged or put away into boxes—similar to an entertainment center inside a home,” he said.

Another challenge Todd faced was getting the projector to the proper height on the stand to align with the screen. “Through trial and error, I developed a formula based on the projector’s recommended throw distance and the grade level to the ground from the projector stand to the screen that gets the projector at the perfect height every time,” said Todd.

The wireless cinema equipment setup includes a 1080p/4K LED Projector, Roku Streaming Media Player, and 500-watt Bluetooth Wireless Speaker. It is powered by a 500-watt Rechargeable Battery Station that gives you 3 hours of viewing before having to recharge. You never have to run extension cords to your outdoor movie theater, making the overall setup faster and easier.

“After I built and set up my own custom wireless outdoor movie theater on my property, I understood the painful challenges other homeowners go through to get a movie night going in their backyards,” Todd said. “I want to provide homeowners with an effortless and simple setup for watching their favorite entertainment outdoors and to make it as easy as watching TV inside your living room.”

Features of the Big Moose Wireless Outdoor Movie Theater include:
